Short Course: Understanding Survival Modeling with Application to HTA

Sunday, November 5, 8:00 - 12:00

Gemma Kay, Senior Health Economist, Health Economics & Epidemiology, ICON

This course will provide an understanding of the fundamentals of survival analysis and key issues to be considered when comparing alternative survival models for inclusion in cost-effectiveness analysis, including an understanding of differences between partitioned survival and Markov-based approaches.

Podium Presentation: Cost-Effectiveness of Dabigatran with Real World Effectiveness Evidence

Monday, November 6, 11:15 – 12:15

Caroline Guilmet, Senior Analyst, Health Economics, Mapi

Presented by Boehringer Ingelheim and co-authored by Caroline Guilmet, Senior Analyst, Health Economics, Mapi.

This study aimed to provide based French nationwide claims and hospital discharge databases real world estimations of the cost-effectiveness of dabigatran, and rivaroxaban, versus VKA, for the prevention of thromboembolic and hemorrhagic events in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Results confirm the cost-effectiveness of dabigatran in a real-life setting.

Podium Presentation:  Exploring Factors Explaining Treatment Acceptance in Patients Suffering From a Chronic Disease

Monday, November 6, 15:45 – 16:45

Elodie de Bock , Senior Research Consultant, Mapi Centered Outcomes

Co-authored by Sandra Wiederkehr, Project Director, Mapi Patient Centered Sciences, and Benoit Arnould, Senior Director, Mapi Patient Centered Outcomes.

Using the 25-item ACCEPT© questionnaire in an observational cross-sectional design, this study reveals that treatment acceptance is not satisfactory in patients with chronic diseases [Acceptance/General score low in average (46.7 ± 33.0)]. General acceptance is mainly driven by patients’ perceived treatment effectiveness, side effects and long term use

Workshop: Value Of Information (VOI) Analysis for Research Decisions: Emerging Good Practice Recommendations from the ISPOR VOI Task Force

Monday, November 6, 2017 17:00-18:00

Elisabeth Fenwick, PhD, MSc, Senior Principal, Health Economics, Health Economics & Epidemiology, ICON plc

Value of Information (VOI) methods provide essential tools to quantify the value of additional evidence to reduce uncertainty in decision making and inform research prioritization decisions.

  • Hear from ISPOR Task Force members on initial good practice recommendations, focused on the role of VOI in supporting different types of health care decisions.
  • Learn sources of uncertainty that can be addressed with VOI
  • Get insights on applications of VOI from multiple decision making perspectives – clarifying how results of VOI analysis can be embedded into the decision making process to inform adoption and research decisions and address issues associated with conditional coverage options
  • Understand key steps for reporting, presenting and interpreting VOI results
