Manchester Translational Medicine Unit


Endorsed by the ABPI and MAHSC, ICON Development Solutions has collaborated with one of the largest university teaching hospital NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, the Central Manchester University Hospital Foundation Trust (CMFT) to build a 34-bed state-of-the-art hospital based Clinical Pharmacology Unit (CPU) based within the Manchester Royal Infirmary hospital campus.

ICON's new hospital-based unit on the Manchester Royal Infirmary campus is a two-floor, purpose-built Phase I Clinical Pharmacology Unit comprising:
 
  • 40 beds (4 x 6 bed bay ward, 1 x 6 bed ward, 4 x 1 bed Pharmacodynamic testing rooms + 6 bed annex)
  • On hospital campus with direct access to A&E (the neighboring hospital department)
  • Proximity controlled access throughout, security cameras & alarmed
  • Pharmacodynamic study testing suites that are sound-proofed, temperature & light-controlled and air-managed to permit the use of irritants
  • Sample handling laboratory
  • WiFi throughout for volunteer & client access
  • Plasma TVs
  • On site regenerative kitchen for volunteer meals

  • 24 staff desks, 2 offices, 1 meeting room

As well as this UK leading Phase I CPU, our collaboration with the CMFT puts ICON Development Solutions at the forefront of translational medicine research by working with investigator communities of this network to expedite drug development transition from Phase I to proof of concept. We have extensive experience across a multitude of study designs and lead the early phase clinical industry as the CRO partner of choice in the development of phar macodynamic models and biomarker assay development to identify efficacy signals in your compound.
