Electronic implementation and digital app localisation

Case study

Language services

Challenge

A prominent eProvider needed multiple eCOA instruments localized into 31 languages using existing validated translations for these instruments for use across two sister studies for a top pharma company. Additional patient and site instructions also needed to be made available in the local language, including patient training content for the eDiary, a site reference guide, and a device label. All content needed to be consistent across studies and have harmonized wording and labeling for ease of use.

Solution

ICON Language Services dedicated a project team across multiple countries and time zones to this project who processed the technical files in our cutting edge computer aided translation tool and Translation Management System. The project management team contracted translators from our pool of vetted medical translation experts to complete the electronic implementation linguistic work as well as the translation of the new patient and site supplemental materials. Translated content was then reviewed and verified against the source English content by two additional native speakers of the target language to ensure accuracy and consistency. All content was then also checked in its final format by a native speaker of the target language as well as the project managers to ensure that final display format was appropriate and consistent across files.

ICON’s value add

– Our proprietary Translation Management system allows for easy collaboration and monitoring of a large multi-language project across multiple time zones by a dedicated team of project managers.

– ICON Language Services has expertise in a wide variety of clinical materials – from electronic implementation processes, to linguistic validation, to medical translations such as device labels and reference guides. This allows us to process all localisation needs within one department to maximise consistency.
– Our large pool of vetted global language professionals provides us with a wide variety of language experts, who specialise in clinical translations and who have a native understanding of the target language and cultures.

Outcome

All eCOA measures underwent electronic implementations at the same time and with the same linguistic experts who translated the reference materials, ensuring that all content (including navigation buttons, menus, user instructions, COA instrument terminology) maintained consistency across all files types, and ensuring ease of use globally. The localisation needs of both studies were handled within a single project for maximum consistency and efficiency.
