Language Services: Voiceover and video localisation

Case study

Challenge

A top-10 global pharmaceutical company needed to localise patient-facing training materials for a clinical trial consent process. The materials included a dynamic web interface (HTML and JSON) and animated video content (Adobe After Effects). The content had to be localised into 13 languages and dialects, while maintaining consistency across platforms and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key challenges included:

  • Synchronising translated voiceovers with animated video timelines
  • Maintaining consistency across multiple file types and platforms
  • Ensuring cultural and linguistic accuracy for diverse patient populations
  • Tight timelines due to trial launch deadlines

Solution

ICON deployed a cross-functional team of project managers, clinical linguists, and multimedia engineers to deliver a seamless localisation workflow:

Translation & review

  • All web and video scripts were translated using CAT tools with client-specific translation memories and term bases.
  • Linguists with clinical trial expertise ensured terminology accuracy and regulatory alignment.

Voiceover production

  • Native-speaking voice actors recorded the translated scripts.
  • Audio was synced precisely with the original After Effects animations.

Video engineering & QA

  • Localised audio was integrated into the videos.
  • Timing and transitions were adjusted to match each language's pacing.
  • Final videos and web pages were reviewed in context by native linguists to validate:
    • Pop-up text
    • Menu navigation
    • Layout and display performance

ICON’s value add

– Our computer aided translation technology allows for extra consistency and quality checks across file types.
– We are able to accommodate the localisation of multiple file types and technology platforms within one scope of work.
– We are accustomed to localising content across a wide variety of platforms. Many of our clients use proprietary systems and need custom localization solutions that ensure maximum quality and efficiency.

Outcome

ICON delivered a fully localised, patient-ready solution across all 13 languages within 6 weeks, enabling the client to launch their global trial on schedule.

Key metrics:

  • 13 languages localised (including dialect-specific variants)
  • 26 voiceovers recorded (male/female variants for some regions)
  • 100% synchronisation of voiceover with video animations
  • Zero critical QA issues reported post-launch
  • 30% faster turnaround than industry average for similar projects
  • 95% satisfaction rating from client’s internal QA and regional teams
